For Diamond Collier, PhD, the path to founding Neurodiverse, Insightful, Coaching, & Empowerment (NICE) Mindset was paved with both personal experiences and professional insights. As a mother of two neurodiverse children and a former Special Education teacher with over 14 years of experience, Dr. Collier's life has been a testament to the unique challenges and incredible potential of neurodiverse individuals.

A Mother's Perspective

Diamond's journey began when her firstborn, Payton, was diagnosed with autism with a speech delay at the age of three. Four years later, her second born, Preston was identified as having ASD as well, along with Payton having an addition diagnosis of ADHD and anxiety. Navigating the complex world of neurodiversity as a parent opened Dr. Collier's eyes to the gaps in support and understanding within both educational and social systems.

"I found myself constantly advocating for my children," Dr. Collier recalls. "From IEP meetings to social gatherings, it became clear that there was a significant need for greater awareness and acceptance of neurodiversity."

Professional Insights

As a Special Education teacher, Dr. Collier witnessed firsthand the struggles of neurodiverse students and their families within the school system. She observed how limited resources, lack of understanding, and rigid educational structures often failed to meet the unique needs of these children.

"I saw brilliant minds being overlooked because they didn't fit into traditional learning molds," Dr. Collier explains. "It was heartbreaking to see the potential in these students and know that the system wasn't equipped to nurture it fully."

Challenges as Catalysts for Change

The challenges Dr. Collier faced were numerous. She struggled with:

  • Limited access to appropriate resources for her children

  • Misunderstanding and stigma from others in social settings

  • Bureaucratic hurdles in the education system

  • Emotional toll of constant advocacy

  • Balancing the needs of her children with her professional responsibilities

These challenges, however, became the driving force behind Dr. Collier's vision for change. She realized that her unique position as both a parent and an educator gave her valuable insights that could benefit others in similar situations.

A Vision Takes Shape

Diamond Collier, PhD envisioned a coaching service that would bridge the gaps she had encountered. Her goal was to create a supportive environment where neurodiverse individuals and their families could find understanding, guidance, and empowerment.

"I wanted to create a place where people could come and feel truly seen and heard," Dr. Collier says. "A place where neurodiversity is celebrated, not just accommodated."

Mission and Impact

NICE Mindset's mission is clear: to foster acceptance, build resilience, and empower neurodiverse individuals and their families to thrive in a neurotypical world. The business aims to provide comprehensive support through counseling, workshops, support groups, and community outreach programs.

For Diamond, the impact extends beyond numbers. "Seeing a child light up when they realize they're not alone, or watching parents exhale with relief when they find understanding – these moments are why I do what I do," she shares.
